Find Out More About Our Trusted Assistants

We are often asked about the role of our Bennett Griffin Trusted Assistants (BGTAs), what they do, what they can assist people with and how they do it.

Rather than try and answer this question on their behalf, we spoke to one of our Trusted Assistants, Peter Gayler, and asked him to explain the role of a BGTA to us and why he enjoys it so much.

What is it like to be a Bennett Griffin Trusted Assistant?

At the outset, it was slightly daunting. But I was confident in the skills I knew I had to offer and was really keen to put them into practice.

What sort of things do you assist clients with?

I enjoy helping clients regain control of their financial paperwork and make sense of it all.

For example, I often have to retrieve a sack full of financial papers for a client, and then simplify them. I help make sense of them and then report back, talking them through a one-page financial summary that I’ve produced. This often provides a sense of reassurance and control for the client, and I find it very satisfying and worthwhile.

The next day, I may be asked to go out and locate the gas and electricity meters at a vacant property to take meter readings and check that it is secure. No two days are the same!

How do you interact with Bennett Griffin?

Well, all of the BGTAs are employees and fully involved with the Elderly Client Services and Wills, Trusts and Probate Teams on nearly a daily basis. We have DBS Certificates and are regularly included in the training that goes on at Bennett Griffin, such as Dementia Friends and most recently Safeguarding.

The Partners and Solicitors have been very quick to understand what each BGTA has to offer and match those skills and personality to the individual client.

What do you like about being a Trusted Assistant?

I enjoy the variety of the role, working on a variety of tasks for a range of people. I also enjoy the opportunity to help people and utilise the skills with figures and finances that I have gained throughout my professional career.

There’s a great balance of working in the office and interacting with my colleagues, particularly those in the Elderly Client Services and Wills, Trusts and Probate Teams (as well as the other teams within Bennett Griffin) while also going out to see clients at their homes or to visit properties that we are responsible for.

The position offers a variety of tasks, which can range from the straightforward to the interesting and unusual and the sometimes very challenging.

I really feel that as a Trusted Assistant, I can make a difference to an individual’s quality of life, by empowering them to live as independently as possible and adding the personal touch and time to the service that Bennett Griffin offers. We get to go the extra mile for our clients.
